Preview: A Week Without WorldTour
History returns before hierarchy does
There are weeks when the WorldTour dictates the rhythm.
And there are weeks — like this one — when history quietly takes the stage.
With no WorldTour races on the calendar, attention shifts to events that carry older weight: the revival of the Giro di Sardegna and the reshaped Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var.
These are not headline races.
But their archives are heavy.
Giro di Sardegna
A return after fourteen years
For the first time since 2011, the Giro di Sardegna returns to the calendar.
Originally held between 1958 and 1983, the race briefly resurfaced in the 1990s as part of Settimana Ciclistica Internazionale and again between 2009 and 2011. Now, after another long absence, it reappears — less as a reinvention than as a restoration.
The last edition belonged to Peter Sagan, who in 2011 dominated the Sardinian roads: three stage victories out of five, and the overall classification. It was early-season brilliance before it became routine.
